Scientists Create Revolutionary Material to Clean Oil Spills

Congratulations to DNI members, alumni, and partners at Deakin University for their latest paper published in Nature Communications, regarding research supported by the Australian Research Council.  This is the latest news on the materials produced from BN nano sheets that have amazing properties and can be used for a variety of applications, from cleaning oil spills to high-temperature composites.  The publication is an open access paper which is available to everyone for free downloading.

Katie Van Aken Awarded Korener Family Award

Congratulations to PhD Student, Katie Van Aken, who was recently announced as a 2015 Korener Family Award recipient in the field of engineering.

Prof. Gogotsi Awarded Lee Hsun Award

Prof. Yury Gogotsi was awarded the Lee Hsun Award Lecture at the Institute of Metal Research (IMR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on Nov. 5. The Lee Hsun Lecture Award is named after the former IMR Director H. Lee, who discovered hydrogen embrittlement in steels. According to Prof. Hui-Ming Chen, Editor in Chief of Materials for Energy Storage (Elsevier) and IMR Advanced Carbon Materials Division Director, this award “Honors scientists who have significant impact and made great contribution to the field of materials science and engineering both at home and abroad. It is aiming at continuously and regularly encouraging scientists with great influence on materials science and engineering to visit IMR to accomplish academic communication and cooperation, and promote the establishment of new subject areas.”
