Year: 2015

New Publication in Advanced Energy Materials

Congratulations to Xiuqiang and his co-authors  Taron, Mengqiang and Katie on publication of their paper in one of the top journals in our field – Advanced Energy Materials (Impact Factor: 16.146). This is our 4th paper in this journal in 2015, but our first ever paper on MoS2. Thanks to Xiuqiang and his advisor from Sydney Prof. Guoxiu Wang for expanding the range of 2D materials that we have access to.

Pacifichem Meeting

Prof. Yury Gogotsi will be attending the Pacifichem meeting of the American Chemical Society in Honolulu this week. He will be giving an invited talk, participating in the ACS Nano Editors meeting and meeting with collaborators.

Super-Absorbent Material That Can Soak Up Oil Spills

In hopes of limiting the disastrous environmental effects of massive oil spills, Materials scientists from Drexel University and Deakin University, in Australia, have teamed up to manufacture and test a new material, called a boron nitride nanosheet, that can absorb up to 33 times its weight in oils and organic solvents—a trait that could make it an important technology for quickly mitigating these costly accidents.

Congratulations to Prof. Bastian Etzold!

Congratulations to DNI alum and former Humboldt Fellow, Prof. Bastian Etzold, who since Dec. 1 has started as full professor for chemical technology at the Technical University Darmstadt. He also was successful with attracting an ERC Consolidator Grant, a very notable accomplishment. Congratulations to Bastian!

Prof. Gogotsi Interviewed on WHYY

Yury Gogotsi, PhD, Distinguished University and Trustee Chair professor in the College of Engineering and head of the A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute, was interviewed in a Dec. 2 WHYY-Radio (91-FM) story about his research to create a super-absorbent material that can help to clean up oil spills.

Listen to the interview here.

2015 MRS Fall Meeting

Great work is demonstrated by NMG group members at the MRS Fall meeting in Boston, MA.  Dr. Babak Anasori gave a talk about his discovery of layered double transition metal MXenes yesterday and Katie Van Aken’s poster was nominated for the Best Poster award from her symposium. Our group members are joined by alumni from across the globe.

Congratulations to all!

Scientists Create Revolutionary Material to Clean Oil Spills

Congratulations to DNI members, alumni, and partners at Deakin University for their latest paper published in Nature Communications, regarding research supported by the Australian Research Council.  This is the latest news on the materials produced from BN nano sheets that have amazing properties and can be used for a variety of applications, from cleaning oil spills to high-temperature composites.  The publication is an open access paper which is available to everyone for free downloading.
