• Dec 14, 2005:  Goknur Cambaz received Ludo Frevel Crystallography Scholarship from the International Centre for Diffraction Data (ICDD).

•  Dec 5, 2005: Researchers at Drexel University have filled carbon nanotubes with magnetic nanoparticles. The resulting magnetic nanostructures could have applications in memory devices, medicine and wearable electronics. For details, click here.

•  Sept 30, 2005: Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko visited Philadelphia to receive the Philadelphia Liberty Medal on Saturday, September 17. Prof. Yury Gogotsi had an inspiring discussion with President Yushchenko about nanotechnology and the US-Ukraine cooperation during the awards dinner at the Constitution Center in Philadelphia. President Yushchenko was aware of importance of nanotechnology and asked Prof. Gogotsi's opinion about the leading institutions in Ukraine in this field. He also stressed importance of building a large scale cooperation program between the US and Ukraine in the nanotechnology area.

•  Sept 30, 2005: Prof. Gogotsi is in the editorial board of AZojomo, Journal of Materials Online.
 
• Sept 30, 2005: The image from “Anisotropic Etching of SiC Whiskers", authored by Z.G.Cambaz, G.Yushin, Y.Gogotsi, V.Lutsenko, Nanoletters will be featured on the cover page of Nano Letters, March issue (2006).

•  Aug 9, 2005: Gleb Yushi and Goknur Cambaz received Honorable Mention in Class 3 of the International Metallographic Contest held recently in Honolulu. The titles of the poster was "Novel Approach to SiC Nanoarchitecture" and was co-authored by Dr. Yury Gogotsi, and V.G. Lutsenko.

 •  July 29, 2005: John Chmiola's photograph appeared with the President of the Electrochemical Society in the Summer 2005 issue of Interface. John was featured as the recipient of the Best Student Poster Award at the ECS Spring meeting in Quebec City, Canada, for his paper "Pore Structure Engineering for Electrochemical Applications".

• July 5, 2005: Kristopher Behler received a grant through the Material Advantage Student chapter to participate in the recent Congressional Visit Days (CVD) in Washington, D.C. For details, click here.

•   June 16, 2005: Ranjan Dash and Elizabeth Hoffman received travel grant for attending the North American Membrane Society meeting in Providence, RI. They both were awarded $500 travel grants from the conference organizers. Ranjan also received the Poster Award for his poster titled "Carbide Derived Carbon with Tunable Porosity". Gleb Yushin and Yury Gogotsi were co-authors of this poster.

•   June 14, 2005: Tom Juliano, alumni of our group, received a newly established Best Thesis Award from Drexel University for his PhD thesis. This award was established this year and is accompanied by a check.

•  Prof. Yury Gogotsi has been elected to be a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS). Dr. Gogotsi will be recognized at the Honors and Awards Banquet at the ACerS 107th Annual Meeting, April 12, 2005 in Baltimore, Maryland.

•  May 17, 2005: John Chmiola won the Best Poster award at the Electrochemical Society Meeting in Quebec. His poster titled "Pore Structure Engineering in Carbons for Electrochemical Applications" Ranjan K. Dash, Gleb Yushin and Yury Gogotsi were co-authors of this poster.

•  April 26, 2005: Nanomaterials group received the Best poster award at the Research Day 2005 in emerging technology (both graduate and undergraduate level) and business research initiative category (graduate level).

The title for the emerging technology graduate poster is "Wetting of Carbon Nanotubes and Carbon Coatings by Polar and non-Polar Liquids", authored by Davide Mattia, Byong M Kim, Haim H Bau, Yury Gogotsi.

The title for the emerging technology undergraduate poster is "Influence of nanodiamond additives on mechanical properties of Ni electroplated coatings", authored by Adrian J Gurga and Yury Gogotsi.

The title for the business research initiative poster is "Y-Carbon: Powering the New Millennium", authored by Ranjan K Dash, John Chmiola, Gleb Yushin, Yury Gogotsi.

•  Apr 22, 2005: Davide Mattia won third prize in Grad. Student Poster Contest at the Liberty Bell Chapter of ASM's Sustaining Member's Night.

•  Apr 25, 2005: Faculty, staff, and students from Drexel University were in full force at the Pennsylvania Nanotechnology Conference 2005: “The Business of Nanotechnology,” which was held April 18-20 in Pittsburgh, PA.  •  Apr 12, 2005: Kris Behler received the NSF Graduate Fellowship.

•   Apr 11, 2005: Z. Goknur Cambaz and Dr. Gleb Yushin received the Roland B. Snow Award from the American Ceramic Society for their work on "SiC Pagoda Nanoarchitecture". This award is presented for the best ceramographic work at the annual meeting of the American Ceramic Society and consists of a monetary award and a Steuben glass artifact. The winning entry was co-authored Dr. V. Lutsenko, from Kiev, Ukraine, and Prof. Gogotsi.

 •  Mar 30, 2005: Paper titled "Carbon Nanotubes Loaded with Magnetic Particles" by Guzeliya Korneva, Haihui Ye, Yury Gogotsi, Derek Halverson, Gary Friedman, Jean-Claude Bradley, and Konstantin G. Kornev appeared in Articles ASAP in Nano Letters. This paper received unsolicited coverage on the leading nanotechnology Web portal Nanotechweb.org and on the website of American Chemical Society.

 •  Mar 2, 2005:  Prof. Yury Gogotsi has been awarded the COE Outstanding Research Award.

•  Mar 1, 2005:  Prof. Yury Gogotsi has been elected to be a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS). Dr. Gogotsi will be recognized at the Honors and Awards Banquet at the ACerS 107th Annual Meeting, April 12, 2005 in Baltimore, Maryland.

•  Feb 22, 2005: Kris Behler has been selected to attend the NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) Carbon Nanotubes: From Basic Research To Nanotechnology, May 21-31, 2005 in Sozopol, Bulgaria. He will receive room, board, and conference fee sponsorship from the ASI.

•  Jan 26, 2005: Prof. Gogotsi have been invited to become an Associate Editor of the journal "Science of Sintering" published by the International Institute for the Science of Sintering. He will be handling manuscripts in the area of nanomaterials.
