| July 21, 2006 - Dr. Hoa Lam, former IGERT trainee, and collaborators from Drexel University’s Department of Materials Science & Engineering including her Ph.D. advisor Dr. Frank Ko, Dr. Yury Gogotsi, and Dr. Haihui Ye, have received the Best Paper Award for the 2005 Technical Conference of the American Society for Composites (ASC) for their paper titled "Electrospinning of Submicron Polyacrylonitrile Fibers Containing Vapor Grown Carbon Nanofibers." The award will be presented at the ASC 2006 Technical Conference at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in September. This paper is related to Dr. Lam’s Ph.D. thesis, which she completed in 2004. February 17, 2006 - IGERT Fellow Mike Birnkrant won a $980 grant-in-aid of research from Sigma Xi for his research project titled "Top-down meets bottom-up: block copolymer Bragg reflectors." IGERT Fellow Dan Johnston published a paper in Nature Materials: Electronic devices based on purified carbon nanotubes grown by high-pressure decomposition of carbon monoxide. Danvers E. Dan presented a poster on this project at the Gordon Research Conference on Condensed Matter Physics in June. The poster was titled "Electronic Devises Based on Purified HiPCO Carbon Nanotubes." Additionally, Fishbein was the recipient of the Arnold M. Denenstein Prize from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania for the 2004-2005 academic year. March 1, 2004 - IGERT Fellow Nevin Naguib, along with fellow PhD student Emily Ho, has been chosen to participate in the University of San Francisco's 2004 International Business Plan Competition. For the competition, they will present their venture plan, "Hy-Nano," April 1-3, 2004 in San Francisco, CA. For details, click here Jan 16, 2004 - IGERT Fellow Natalie Carroll won the Best Poster Award at the American Chemical Society Graduate Poster Session.
